Appleton Gate
Sitting within Newark's Conservation Area, Appleton Gate is a mixed-use development that draws from its surroundings.
The existing building's character is reflected through lighter brickwork on the new extension, chamfered window openings, and pre-cast concrete banding aligned to existing datums.
A flat-roof link between the two structures references the contemporary addition at the neighbouring Palace Theatre, carefully connecting old and new.
We sensitively reconfigured the existing building to accommodate a ground-floor commercial unit — soon to be home to a local coffee shop — alongside three one-bedroom apartments. Our sympathetically designed extension delivers a further four one and two-bedroom homes.
The result is a development that respects its historic setting while generating real value through a well-considered mix of uses and unit types, proving that context-driven design and commercial success can be achieved together.
